Unusual raid in Naples
The Swiss watch is stolen – and brought back!
An unusual scene occurred on a restaurant terrace in Naples: a Swiss tourist’s watch was stolen at gunpoint. However, the perpetrator came back and returned the watch following realizing that it wasn’t worth much.
Two Swiss tourists were sitting comfortably in the Café Monide in Piazza Trieste e Trento in the historic center of Naples when suddenly a man appeared behind them. He held a gun to the two men’s necks and stole one tourist’s watch before fleeing.
He returned only a little later to return the object of desire to its owner. “The thief thought it was a Richard Mille that might be worth hundreds of thousands of euros. In reality, it wasn’t very valuable, so he returned it,” the restaurant’s operators said.
They not only contacted the police, but also sent the video to Francesco Emilio Borrelli. The local Greens politician shared the clip on Facebook to denounce the insecurity prevailing in Naples. «This happens right in the historic center! The thieves, armed, go on a raid just a few meters from the police station. If the tourist hadn’t played along, it might have ended in a drama,” criticized the Green politician.
“There will be deaths!”
In the capital of Campania, crime has been raging for a long time and is not limited to the suburbs or so-called “problem areas”. Borrelli states: «Tourists seem to be the preferred victims of criminals, as you can see. The phenomenon has gotten so out of control. Soon there will be deaths!”
The deputy of the regional council and former journalist points out that although the area is theoretically under video surveillance, in reality this is rarely the case. However, the pictures from the café immortalized the theft. ‘You returned the watch to avoid conviction for an item of so little value. This proves that they are very well organized and familiar with the law,” concluded Borrelli.
The video’s release prompted a flood of comments from Neapolitans who were very outraged by the video. “You can tell from the slowness of their actions how untouchable they feel. Maybe they even know where the patrol vehicles are,” criticized one user. “What a shame! Especially now that we are slowly having tourists once more, such videos will prevent them from coming to Naples », fears another. Some call for raising awareness among tourists, while others say it is already too late: “The police have lost control in Naples”. (snd/chs)
