Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka paid the price for making too many errors as she lost to world number 19 Emma Navarro in the second round of Wimbledon on Wednesday (3/7).

The 26-year-old Japanese player, appearing at Wimbledon for the first time in five years, lost 6-4, 6-1.

The defeat to Navarro means Osaka has never advanced beyond the third round at Wimbledon in four appearances.

Appearing at the grasscourt Grand Slam tournament as a wildcard after giving birth to her first child last year, Osaka missed Wimbledon in 2022 due to injury and 2021 due to taking a break to address mental health issues.

Osaka advanced to the second round of Wimbledon after beating France’s Diane Parry but was unable to make much of a difference against Navarro, who made just five unforced errors to Osaka’s 16.

In the third round of Wimbledon, Navarro will face Russian tennis player Diana Shnaider.

“I don’t feel confident. I didn’t perform well at all,” Osaka admitted after the match.

“I think that feeling became more apparent as the match went on. Especially in the second set,” he continued. (bbc/Z-1)
