Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi will seek re-election to her seat as a San Francisco congresswoman in 2024.
Former Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, 83, declared this Friday to be candidate for re-election to her California elected seat in 2024.
“Our country must show the world that our flag still shines,” declared this great figure in American politics on X, formerly Twitter. “That’s why I’m running for re-election.”
This announcement comes at a time when America is experiencing lively debates around aging of its political class: President Joe Biden is 80 years old, his rival Donald Trump 77.
Considerable influence
She now sits as a simple elected official from California, but retains considerable influence on Capitol Hill, which she has surveyed since 1987.
Long the third person in the American state – she was first elected to the post of “Speaker” in 2007 – Nancy Pelosi is known for her rrole of first opponent of Donald Trumpwhich she fiercely opposed when he occupied the White House.
At the end of October, her husband Paul was attacked in the middle of the night at their home in California by a man armed with a hammer. He was in fact looking for Nancy Pelosi, whom he accused of lying and whose kneecaps he intended to “break.”
