Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana launched the jersey for the Bank Jateng Tour de Borobudur event, which will be held on December 7-8, 2024.

The largest cycling competition event in Central Java has entered its 24th year. This year, the host is Kebumen Regency.

“So the Tour de Borobudur started in 2000. God willing, it will be attended by cyclists from within the country and abroad,” said Nana on the sidelines of the Fun Run activity at Campus 3 UIN Salatiga, Sunday (18/8).

Kebumen Regency was deliberately chosen to host this year because it has beautiful nature and a number of geoparks. Since 2018, the geopark in Kebumen Regency has been designated as a national geopark area.

The implementation of the Tour de Borobudur is also to support the Kebumen Geopark application process to become a UNESCO Global Geopark.

“There are many places to visit, such as stalagmites or stalactites in Jatijajar Cave. Pandan Kuning Beach is also very beautiful,” he said.

To highlight the natural beauty of Kebumen, he continued, the jersey launched has a motif of various riches of Kebumen. Such as stalactites – stalagmites, sokka roof tiles, and turtles.

Nana hopes that the Bank Jateng Tour de Borobudur, which will cover a route of 50 km to 100 km at the end of this year, will attract even more enthusiasm from cyclists.

“We hope that it will be more lively from year to year. In addition to exercising, we get athletes who excel, who can compete at the national and even international levels,” said Nana.

The Head of the 2024 Tour de Borobudur Committee, Hendra Dharmanto, said that in 2023, Kebumen has been included by the Indonesian government as a representative to advance to become a UNESCO World Geopark. Therefore, it is important for Central Java Province to support the assessment process.

“Through the Tour de Borobudur activity, we help to promote geoparks that are being assessed by the team from there. So, participants will go through 42 geopark sites around Kebumen,” he explained.

Some of the routes prepared to be crossed on the first day in Kebumen Regency are the Menganti Beach area, Mendoan Museum, Pandan Kuning Beach, Turtle Conservation, and local industries.

Next, on the second day, the cyclists who also involve national athletes, will greet Borobudur in Magelang Regency. In this place, the destination raised is Kujon Market. (RO/Z-1)
