Names of Usman Khawaja’s daughters written on shoes in Test match

Australian batsmen Usman Khawaja had his daughters’ names written on his batting shoes on the first day of the second Test match against Pakistan on Tuesday.

He was previously barred from referring to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

According to the French news agency AFP, on the first day of the second Test in Melbourne, a closer look at the picture of Usman Khawaja’s shoes revealed the names of his daughters Ayesha and Ayla.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had earlier on Sunday banned Usman Khawaja, who scored 42 runs, from wearing a sticker with a black figure holding an olive branch on his bat and shoes.

The logo he had applied to the shoes during the training session bore the words ’01:UDHR’, a reference to Article One of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The ICC said that Usman Khawaja violated the International Cricket Council’s rules on messages related to politics, religion or race.

Usman Khawaja posted a message on Instagram on Monday expressing his frustration, writing: ‘Merry Christmas everyone. Sometimes you just have to laugh.’

He wrote the hashtags #inconsistent and #doublestandards in his post.

Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley said Usman Khawaja was “very passionate about human rights”.

Speaking to ABC News, he said: ‘We supported Usman by making an application (to the ICC) that seemed really neutral, non-religious and non-political.’

He said: ‘Similarly the ICC has its own rules and regulations so we have to respect them as well, but I think the main way to deal with this (this kind of problem) is to talk and work together. .’

Last week, Usman Khawaja told how the conflict between Israel and Hamas has affected him.

He said: ‘When I look at my Instagram and see innocent children dying, it affects me the most. I just imagine my elder daughter in my arms. Then I get emotional talking about it. I have no hidden agenda.’

According to AFP, the ICC has been contacted over the recent issue.
