Named pressure-reducing popular drink Russian news EN

Doctors told how green tea helps to cope with high blood pressure, writes Daily Express.

Doctors explained that high blood pressure is associated with the force with which blood acts on the walls of the arteries. If the pathology is not treated, then over time it can lead to a heart attack.

Doctors have named a popular drink that will help cope with hypertension. Green tea is a source of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants known for their effects on high blood pressure, they explained. The publication cites the results of a study by Chinese scientists who have proven the positive effects of green tea on blood pressure.

“Those who drank at least half a cup of medium-strength green tea a day for a year had a nearly halved risk of developing hypertension, by 46 percent,” the researchers found. At the same time, those who consumed more than two and a half cups of tea per day, the risk of developing hypertension was reduced by 65 percent.

According to researchers, the antioxidants contained in green tea, catechins, open protein channels in the membranes of smooth muscle cells that cover the walls of blood vessels. As a result, positively charged potassium ions leave the cell. Catechins also activate a special kind of potassium ion, KCNQ5, which lowers blood pressure.

Formerly nutritionist Svetlana Fus did not recommend drink a lot of green tea for pregnant women, and also make strong tea leaves, as it contains caffeine and interferes with the absorption of folic acid.
