The doctor explained what a simple daily action will help reduce the risk of dementia.
Michael Moseley, a British doctor and host of television programs on biology and medicine, spoke on his Just One Thing podcast regarding a daily habit that helps once morest dementia. He is quoted Lenta.ru with a link to Express.
If you don’t brush your teeth, bacteria from your mouth can cause dementia, Moseley says. “The study found that people with severe periodontal disease — gum disease — are more at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease,” he said.
Gums, he reminded him, can become inflamed if you brush your teeth poorly. “When bacteria from the mouth enter the bloodstream, it triggers an immune response. This is useful for the body if it does not last long, but following some time it can lead to chronic inflammation, ”the specialist warned regarding the connection found by the doctors.
Moseley’s words were confirmed by British dentist Sim Singrao. He clarified that with a group of specialists from the Department of Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire, he studied brain samples of people who suffered and did not suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. “We were looking for signs of oral bacterial DNA and associated proteins. We found them in the brains of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease,” he concluded.
