The 18th edition of the World Naked Bike Ride took place on Saturday June 11, with thousands of cyclists stripping down. 200 cities participate, including London, but also Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Mexico City, Tokyo, Paris, etc.
This Saturday, cyclists, whose number is estimated at more than 1,000, mounted their bikes, in Eve’s outfit or dressed as little as possible, in the streets of London on the occasion of the World Naked Bike Wrinkled. Other events take place in 200 cities around the world.
This is the first World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) to be held in two years, with previous editions having been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WNBR member Fabian Conejo suggested the nudity is an allegory for their fragility on the streets as they ride alongside cars, trucks and buses. “No matter how much safety equipment you wear, for a cyclist it is fatal”did he declare.
A total of 200 cities are participating in the race, including Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Vienna, Sao Paolo, Vancouver, Copenhagen, Paris, Thessaloniki, Tel Aviv and Tokyo; London, Mexico. They outline their campaign with a number of themes and goals, including protesting once morest global oil addiction, fighting ‘car culture’, winning better rights for cyclists and demonstrating their vulnerability on city streets.
Dressed in body paint and trainers – and little else – dozens of activists bravely straddled their saddles to take part in the London leg of the trek. Many have covered their naked bodies in sequins, painted slogans and fancy dress for this annual event.
