Lebanese director and actress Nadine Labaki revealed that she has been away from directing during the last five years and focusing on acting, as a result of her preoccupation with writing a new film regarding the events that struck Lebanon, and the unstable circumstances that the country is going through.

“terrible”
Nadine said that she is participating in the Cairo International Film Festival in its next session with an Egyptian film entitled “I Miss You,” directed by Tamer Rogli, with the participation of French actress “Fanny Ardant,” expressing her pride and enjoyment in working with her and describing her as having a distinguished and inspiring personality.
The work deals with the story of a girl who returns to her homeland, Egypt, following twenty years of absence, to see her eccentric aristocratic mother, on a surprising trip, rich in distant memories, nostalgia, and mixed feelings regarding the past.
Labaki said that she loves acting, but she does not consider herself a professional actress. Because she started as a director and turned to acting following that, and her work as an actress gets her out of the routine and adds to her experiences in the field of directing. She is looking to gain experiences more than anything, and acting also makes her get to know the actor’s feeling and his requirements from the director and get to know the style of another director that adds to her experiences. .

Digital platforms
Nadine believes that digital platforms do not threaten the future of theaters, and that the relationship between them is complementary and not competitive, and their presence is necessary, and the audience must be able to live with both experiences, especially since cinema has important rituals, the most important of which is watching within a group experience that is fun, but some believe that It is cheaper and easier to stay at home and watch work on the couch.
It is noteworthy that “Capernaum” was the last film directed by Labaki in 2018, and it won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the “Golden Globe” award, and was nominated on the short list to compete for the Oscars as best international film. After that, she participated in acting in three films: “Costa Brava,” “Friends and No Dearest,” which was shown on Netflix, and the third, “I Miss You.”
