Spotify Radar Indonesia 2023 ALUMNI, Nadhif Basalamah, together with international artist Henry Moodie shared the creative process behind their songs which successfully reached the top of the Indonesian Spotify charts at a discussion held in the Gunawarman area, some time ago.
As a form of Spotify’s ongoing support for new artists, this dialogue with musicians provides an opportunity for Radar Indonesia artists to share ideas regarding creative strategies, songwriting, music production, and the challenges faced in the music industry today.
During the discussion session, Nadhif Basalamah shared his experiences during the writing process of his hit song, Guardian of the Heart, as well as what encouraged him to continue working.
“The experience of being a young artist who has been at the top of the charts on Spotify has helped me to maintain my hope in the songwriting process in the future. As a musician, I have to have a positive mindset and of course have to like what I create,” said Nadhif
“After the single Guardian of the Heart was heard by many people, I kept reminding myself that I want to continue being a musician in the future. That’s what motivates me to keep going,” he continued.
Since joining the Radar Indonesia 2023 program, Nadhif’s number of listeners on Spotify has continued to grow until it now reaches more than 6 million monthly listeners.

Through his single Guardian of the Heart, which has been listened to more than 222 million times, Nadhif became the first Radar Indonesia artist to ever manage to stay at the top of the Indonesian Spotify charts for 24 consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile, Moodie told regarding the source of inspiration in the process of writing the song Drunk Text, which is currently topping the Indonesian Spotify charts and has been listened to 177 million times on Spotify.
When creating a song, Moodie started from the inspiration for the song and started creating the chorus and melody using the piano. For him, the arrangement of a song is a character that makes each musician different and unique.

Apart from that, he also gave tips for Spotify Radar Indonesia artists that inspiration for a song can come from anywhere, from personal experience or imagination – continue to create works that represent the character of the music and think regarding ways the song can be enjoyed by anyone, one of which is through Spotify .
Since it started in 2020, the Radar program has featured 700 up-and-coming musicians from 183 countries to support their careers in the world of music.
As part of Radar, artists receive editorial support by featuring their songs in various Spotify playlists and out-of-home publicity.
This discussion with Nadhif and Moodie is a strategic step for Spotify in Indonesia to not only support young artists but also create a supportive and inspiring music industry ecosystem. (RO/Z-1)
