Toni Nadal, the uncle of tennis star Rafael and his former coach, believes that the latter, who finally won the French Grand Slam for the 14th time in his career, appears to be on his way to play at Wimbledon at the same time that he continues to undergo treatment for a problem in his foot.
“Rafa”, ranked fourth in the world and winning 22 major titles in his career, is undergoing a “record” treatment for a nerve problem in his left foot that forced him to play with pain for many years.
“Yes, Rafael will play at Wimbledon,” said Tony, who oversaw the “Matador” for many years on the sidelines of the German ATP Stuttgart tennis tournament.
He added: He plans to train in preparation for the Mallorca Open on Monday.
Tony referred to the success of Rafa’s treatment, stressing, “When we spoke yesterday, he said that things are going better. He wants to train, and he concluded: If he has a small chance, he will play at Wimbledon.
The 36-year-old Spaniard said following his victory in Paris that he had overcome the pain caused by Muller-Weiss syndrome, a rare and degenerative condition that affects the bones of the foot, at the French Open by giving injections and painkillers before each match.
Wimbledon begins on the 27th of this month.
