Spaniard Rafael Nadal has confirmed that his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz can be considered his successor, following the young player won their match in the Madrid Open.
Alcaraz is one of the rising stars of the ATP World Tour, and was able to boost his rise by defeating the nicknamed King of Clay in three sets on Friday.
Alcaraz became the first young player to beat Nadal on clay, and currently has won five consecutive matches once morest players from the top ten.
With the two players getting so much cheering in Spain, there is sure to be a comparison, and Nadal can see why Alcaraz is the right man to succeed him.
Nadal said: “Obviously he will be the alternative because he is 19 years old, I am 36 years old, and I don’t know if it will be from today or following, we will see that.”
“Apart from all this, I am happy for him, he was better than me in many aspects of the match, and I need to improve, as I was saying.”
