Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz lost to Americans Austin Krajicec and Rajeev Ram 6-2, 6-4 and were eliminated from the medal race in the men’s doubles tennis tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Americans, fourth favourites, took one hour and 38 minutes to win their quarter-final tie. They will now play the Czechs Tomas Machac and Adam Pavlasek in the semi-finals.

Spain’s chances of winning a medal in tennis are through Carlos Alcaraz, who is in the men’s singles quarter-finals, and through to the women’s doubles team, which includes Sara Sorribes and Cristina Bucsa, who are also within reach of the semi-finals.

The men’s doubles match marked the end of Nadal’s career in Olympic events, where he had amassed a pair of gold medals in his illustrious career.

Nadal, winner of 14 Roland Garros trophies (the most ever at this event by the Association of Tennis Professionals) and who was eliminated in the second round by Serbian Novak Djokovic in the second round, received a standing ovation from the Parisian public as he left the court.
