Mystery surrounding Blau-Weiß’s new signing: Even doctors are baffled

Oliver Wähling wanted to make a fresh start at Blau-Weiß Linz – but the weeks so far at his new club have not gone as planned. The 24-year-old German moved from Osnabrück to the steel city during the summer transfer period, but he was unable to play for the second division relegated team due to a number of injuries.

And his suffering seems to continue in Linz too: Recently, Wähling complained of a partial loss of control of his legs and was even admitted to a Linz hospital as a result.

The Linz team had expected a precise diagnosis on Tuesday – but there was no such thing. “The doctors are at a loss, they haven’t found anything,” complains Blau-Weiß coach Gerald Scheiblehner. “They suspect that he took a blow to the spine, which has affected the nerve pathways. But they can’t say for sure.”

Which means the mystery surrounding the blue-white transfer probably continues: “We will support him, but training is currently out of the question because he still cannot control his legs as he should.”

In addition to Wähling, Joao Luiz will also be out for a longer period. His compatriot Lucas Dantas, who also joined the club in the summer, has taken part in parts of the training once more.

Bitter: Fabio Strauss was another player injured in today’s training. The 29-year-old defender fell on his shoulder, causing it to pop out. The hospital is currently examining whether the ligaments have also been damaged. The defender will probably miss tomorrow’s test once morest regional league team Donau Linz.
