The Bahamas authorities announced on Friday that the bodies of three American tourists who died in mysterious circumstances in a luxury hotel have been found.

“I am sadly informed of the death of three US visitors, two men and a woman, in a hotel in Exuma,” Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper said in a statement.

He added that “the police are investigating and the cause of death is unknown,” but “there is no suspicion that what happened was a criminal act.”

The official added that a fourth American woman was airlifted to the hospital, without elaborating on further details.

The incident took place at Sandals Emerald Bay, a luxury beachfront hotel on Great Exuma Island.

The Sandals Resorts group commented, “A health emergency was initially reported, and in accordance with our protocols, we immediately alerted healthcare professionals and local authorities,” refusing to provide further details “out of respect for the privacy of our guests.”

Police said they were informed on Friday that a man had been “unconscious” at the hotel.

As soon as they arrived, the investigators found in one of the villas an unconscious man lying on the ground, and the police explained that “no trauma was detected”, and the victim was declared dead soon following.

In a second villa, the police found another man “laying near a wall”, as well as a dead woman lying on a bed. The police added that these two spouses complained of suffering from an “illness” the day before and were “treated” before returning to their place of residence, without specifying the nature of the “illness.”

Investigators said they were waiting for the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of the mysterious deaths.
