Mysteries of Egypt: Hidden Corridor Discovered by Researchers in the Great Pyramid of Giza

Scientists from Scan Pyramids, a project that aims to study passages and architectural details of the Egyptian pyramids, released last Thursday (02) their latest discoveries in the ancient monuments. Using advanced scanning technologies, the Researchers Found a Hidden Corridor in the Great Pyramid of Giza.

In the largest and oldest pyramid — also known as the Pyramid of Cheops — a corridor stretches nine meters near the main entrance used by tourists today. The area remained undiscovered for thousands of years, and finally came to light during research into non-invasive scanning techniques.

As Mostafa Waziri, head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, explains, the corridor was possibly built to redistribute the weight of the pyramid on the outskirts of the main entrance regarding seven meters away.

In an article published in the scientific journal Nature last Thursday (02), researchers said that the construction may be related to a mysterious structure located nearby. Studies regarding the discovery might contribute to adding more knowledge regarding the construction of the pyramid, according to specialists.

It is also believed that there are five stories above the burial chamber of Cheops, the second monarch of the Fourth Dynasty of Egypt, and they intend to employ the same non-invasive exploration techniques to obtain more information regarding the structure of the pyramid, using cosmic rays to create digital maps. of the monument.

The Great Pyramid of Giza has several mysteries that have not yet been unraveled. In 2017, a gigantic chamber was found by Scan Pyramids scientists. The cavity was so spacious that it might have contained a 200-passenger plane. This and other secrets are the subject of investigations by the group of researchers.

For research, specialists use infrared thermography and cosmic ray imaging to create 3D simulations that can accurately represent the interior of buildings. “We will continue our exploration to see what we can discover regarding the hidden corridor,” Waziri said in reference to the Great Pyramid of Giza.
