Increase in arrests for domestic violence

Referring to the issue of domestic violence, the Minister of Citizen Protection described as “hopeful” the fact that thousands of women are reporting their abusers and the police are making arrests.

“To date this year we have 5,830 arrests in a total of 9,917 incidents, an increase of 67.7%, with 1,879 panic button installations, which was activated 224 times.”

At the same time, he pointed out that there is a 20% reduction in the level of petty crime in Attica, with 700 fewer burglaries in the center of Athens and a 35% reduction in rape incidents.

He characterized the delinquency of minors as a “social phenomenon”, with the number of arrests reaching 6,640 out of a total of 5,599 incidents, while informing that every Friday, Saturday and Sunday there are lightly armed police in all squares, announcing that it is “in the works” major operation to stop the proliferation of weapons.
