Iran has detained a tanker in the Gulf of Oman en route from Kuwait to the United States. The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that there was a collision with an Iranian ship, which killed two sailors.

“April 27, at approximately 1315 local time, the Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker Advantage Sweet was hijacked by the IRGC Navy while passing through international waters in the Gulf of Oman,” — reports on Twitter the Navy of the Central command of the United States. They called for the immediate release of the tanker.

According to Archyde.com, Advantage Sweet, operated by the Turkish Genel Denizcilik Nakliyati, is chartered by the American Chevron, and, judging by the AIS data, is heading with a cargo of oil from Kuwait to Houston.

Iran has confirmed the detention of the tanker.

“As a result of a collision between an unknown tanker and an Iranian vessel in the waters of the Persian Gulf, which resulted in the death of two members of the Iranian crew… the tanker was detained in the Gulf of Oman,” – the IRNA agency reports the text of the statement of the Navy to the IRGC.

According to the Iranian side, immediately following the incident, the tanker did not respond to a request from the Marine Rescue Coordination Center of the Chabahar port and headed for the international waters of the Gulf of Oman. As a result, the Bayandor naval corvette detained the ship, sending it to the territorial waters of Iran.
