Civilian casualties continue to rise in Myanmar airstrikes.
On the 22nd, Irrawaddy, a local media outlet, reported that more than 210 civilians were killed in two regions and four states where battles between the Myanmar Army, the Democratic Civil Defense Force (PDF), and the Minority Armed Group (EAO) took place from March 20 to April 18. Yonhap News reported that 60 people were killed and 60 injured.
Civilian damage is increasing due to bombing and air raids by the Myanmar military. The Myanmar military seized power in a coup in February 2021, claiming that the general elections led by Aung San Suu Kyi in November 2020 were fraudulent.
Afterwards, the Myanmar military bloodily suppressed the democratic forces opposing the military division and carried out indiscriminate airstrikes by mobilizing fighter jets and helicopters, centering on areas where its control was weakened. The damage from the power struggle is spreading to civilians.
On the 11th, a total of 183 people were killed and 25 injured in an airstrike using fighter jets and helicopters in the central S once moreg region.
At least 21 civilians were killed in more than six airstrikes in western Chinju, while regular airstrikes killed six people, including medical personnel, and injured 14 others in southeastern Kayah State, where the Myanmar military suffered the most. One civilian was also killed in Karen State.
According to the human rights group Political Prisoner Support Association (AAPP), the number of deaths by the military following the coup is 3,427. The number arrested or detained is 21,474.
