Mya’s ‌desperate fight for life continued ⁣at the Radboud university medical center⁢ in Nijmegen, but the damage ⁢to her brain ⁢was severe. “They placed an IV and Mya was given all kinds of medicine, ⁢but her brain was already so badly damaged ⁢that she⁣ could no⁤ longer heal,” mabel explained.The heartbreaking decision was made⁣ to say goodbye to their beloved daughter, who passed away on September 1, 2023. In⁤ the wake‌ of this devastating loss, Mabel ⁤advocates for increased awareness and understanding of meningitis.”The doctors didn’t recognize it,” she said. ⁣ ‌”This ⁢already starts with ⁣general​ practitioners, but⁢ there is⁣ also ⁤insufficient ⁤knowledge about meningitis in hospitals. It is indeed difficult to ⁢detect, especially in a baby. A ⁤spinal tap needs to be performed, you can’t just do that. yet I ‌believe that parents can‌ have an‌ instinct⁢ that can ‍be correct.”

I ‌quickly ⁤became pregnant again. ‌That was stunning,but also ⁣very difficult,” Mabel confided. ” The pregnancy was not easy at all, operations were​ needed so that our⁤ son was not born ⁤earlier. This happened in the same‌ hospital ⁤where we first went with Mya.That ‍brought with it a lot of emotions.” their son’s arrival brought ⁤joy and a⁤ renewed sense of purpose. “Now we ⁣are of course very happy that ⁤he came into our lives.He really gives our lives color again. We are very grateful for that. He keeps us going – and⁤ of⁤ course we‌ keep⁢ each other going.”

As December ⁢23rd, they’ve been selling these special toys,⁢ with​ all proceeds benefiting​ the itsme foundation. Mya was admitted to‌ Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen.‍ They gave her medicine and IV fluids, but the damage to her brain was already severe. It was heartbreaking to realize ther⁣ was nothing more they ⁢could do. We had to say goodbye to our precious daughter on September 1st,2023.

Firstly, I ⁢want to raise awareness about meningitis. It’s ​difficult to diagnose,especially in babies. Doctors need⁣ more training and ⁤we need greater awareness about its symptoms. But more importantly, parents need to trust their instincts. You know your child best.



**Archyde:** That’s ​a powerful message. ​Since Mya’s ​passing, you have welcomed​ a son into the world.How have you navigated grief and joy amidst such a profound loss?



**Mabel:**



It’s been incredibly challenging, to⁢ be honest. My pregnancy with our son wasn’t easy, and there where many emotional triggers, especially being back in the same hospital where we lost mya.



However,⁢ our son has been a source⁣ of light​ and purpose. He keeps us going and reminds us of the beauty and joy that still exists in the world.
