‘My worst nightmare has come true’: paramedic discovers too late that victim she tried to save is her daughter

On November 15, in Calgary, there was a major road crash between a truck and a car.

While a passenger was able to extricate herself from the vehicle, the other found herself stuck with very serious injuries.

When Jayme Erickson arrived on the scene, she immediately came to the aid of the young girl, staring at her injuries, which prevented Jayme from recognizing her daughter. After waiting by her side, she sends the young girl by helicopter to the nearby hospital.

During a press conference, another paramedic commented on the drama: “without knowing it, Jayme was keeping his own daughter alive”.

Having finished her day’s work, the paramedic returns home. It was there that the Canadian police welcomed her and informed her of the death of her daughter, Montana.

Jayme Erickson realizes at this moment that the young girl she had tried to save was in fact her daughter. “My worst paramedic nightmare has come true, she writes on Facebook. The badly injured patient I had just cared for was my own flesh and blood. My only child. My mini me. My daughter, Montana. Her wounds were so horrific I didn’t even recognize her”.

Despite the care provided, the doctors chose to disconnect Montana because his injuries would not allow him to live. “She was a fighter and she fought till the day she died”, wrote his mother.

I will cherish the memories we made and the time we spent together.” she added. “I am broken. I am broken. I miss a part of myself. I’m left to pick up the pieces and expected to carry on.
