The woman from Pinar del Río is the bearer of an identity and culture that distinguish her in the world. Since history, in Vueltabajo they have been participants in political projects, in which they conspired and jealously guarded the secrets of their husbands, despite the social discrimination to which they were subjected.
Inspiration for many, the women of the westernmost province have become protagonists of the transformations that restored splendor to the most disadvantaged territory of the country before the revolutionary triumph.
In the economy, services, production and in political positions is the imprint of those who carry within themselves the lineage of Mariana, the dedication of the Captain of the West or the conviction of Ana Betancourt. In their legacies, the women from Piano forged their principles and ideas to become the heroines of these times.
Today when the Caribbean nation lives a process of genuine demogracia, its representation is notorious in the candidacy for the X Legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power; expression of the rights achieved in more than 60 years of struggle for equality and empowerment of women in Cuban society.
It will be once once more, the Greater Antilles, the Parliament with the second most women in the world: 55.3 percent of deputies out of the total of 470 legislators.
