My lovebird has lost its appetite. He is gradually losing weight, doesn’t want to eat, and is clearly not feeling well every day. When I took her to the hospital, the doctor was concerned regarding her weight loss. A blood test was made following making a difficult decision. As a result, it was assumed that it was hepatitis. However, following that, there were speculations that it might be an abnormality in the tonsils… However, my appetite returned, so I would like to share it with you.
How my lovebird lost its appetite
This lovebird has lost its appetite and is no longer eating food. His weight has also dropped to 41g, and he has been very quiet, only sleeping during the day.
First, I will talk regarding the overall flow. My lovebird is very hot and usually has trouble with it.
- Entering August 2020Apparently he has no appetite, doesn’t eat enough food, doesn’t come back to eat even following changing the food in the morning.
- I became worried,August 12, 2020I went to the hospital, there was nothing wrong with my feces, nothing wrong with that, just something clearly wrong.
- X-rays and blood tests were performed, and the ALP and NH3 values, which are considered to be prone to liver disease, were clearly abnormal, so liver medication was prescribed.
- Approximately 1 month until September 11thDespite administering liver medicine, the weight did not return.
- It was said that there were some tonsil diseases that did not show up on X-rays, so he was given two drugs: one for the liver and one for the tonsils.
- In addition, to suppress estrus16 hours of good night timeextended to
- Her estrus has subsided, and she has changed her food to snacks, which she will eat anyway.
- September 25, 2020I decided to stop taking the drug for a while because I finished taking it.
- Perhaps the stress has decreased, or the physical strength has recovered, and the dog seems to be eating more food.
- October 9, 2020Is it temporary hepatitis?Although the doctor was still scratching his head, the result was okay, and now he has regained some weight and is feeling better.
Cause of loss of appetite: Liver disease due to heat
Since he was regarding 2 years old, he has started getting really hot. I took various measures, but none of them worked.
Now that I’ve been sleeping 16 hours a day, it’s calmed down a lot, but if I let my guard down and let it land on my arm, it starts to get sluggish.
However, heat seems to be the cause of various diseases, and it is true that before the lovebird loses its appetite,I had given up on being in heat. This wasn’t good…
When I took her to the hospital, she found that she had lost a lot of weight… The doctor also reluctantly suggested a blood test as the tests showed no abnormalities. I was told there was a risk, but there was nothing I might do regarding not moving forward, so I had a blood test done.

Liver disease cannot be cured, so be careful.
That’s what my teacher told me. The same goes for humans, the liver is an important organ, so once it gets damaged…
However, this time, luckily, my appetite returned. Normally, I should have taken another blood test to see if my values have returned to normal, but since blood tests come with risks, I decided not to do so.
The teacher was also a little confused, but the result was okay. Although her weight hasn’t completely gone away yet, I’m just happy that she’s got a lot of energy back.
Right now, I’m sleeping for 16 hours in a self-made cardboard box that completely blocks light, and I’m able to calm down to some extent. The blackout cover didn’t work in my brightness…
I became very worried when I was told that my liver disease cannot be cured, so I would have to take medicine for a long time to come.
I also suspected thyroid abnormality.
Even following taking medication for liver disease for regarding two weeks, my appetite did not return. The last time I took an X-ray, there was no thyroid abnormality found, but I was told that in rare cases, abnormalities in the thyroid gland may occur even under normal conditions, so I decided to take thyroid medication as well.
“If a healthy bird takes thyroid medication, he will lose weight quickly. If he loses weight, please come back soon.”
They said. However, even following taking it for regarding 3 days, I did not lose any weight….Thyroid abnormality! ?
As the doctor had told me, I wasn’t losing any weight, so for another two weeks I had to take two drops of medicine for my liver disease and one drop of medicine for my thyroid in the morning and evening.
Then, drink waterNektonI added it only in the morning to give it some nutrition (in the followingnoon I changed the water and went back to drinking water normally).
Here’s a summary. I’m glad you’re feeling better for now.
- Liver or thyroid problems due to excessive heat
- They stop eating food, lose weight, and reduce their droppings.
- Blood tests and X-rays clearly show that my liver is getting worse.
- I took liver medicine for 1 month, and also took thyroid medicine for 2 weeks, morning and night.
- Gradual recovery, appetite regained following stopping medication
- The doctor wasn’t sure, so he diagnosed it as temporary hepatitis.
- I eat only what I like, sleep 16 hours, and have energy and weight around 44g.

- It is important to sleep for 16 hours as suppressing estrus leads to prevention.
- I took liver medicine and thyroid medicine for 1.5 months and got better.
In the end, even the doctor didn’t understand, but he recovered, but now my lovebird no longer refuses to eat, and his appetite has returned to normal.
