The man did not accept the death of his wife and kept the woman’s embalmed body in his room in Bangkok for 21 years
A Thai man kept for 21 years in his house the body of his late wife, who died in 2001.
Identified as Charn Janwatchakal. the subject slept with the embalmed body of his wife, in his room in Bangkok.
After more than two decades, he recently decided to cremate the body.
Charn, 72, contacted the foundation last week Phet Kasem Bangkok to help him cremate the body, since he felt older and feared that, if he died, no one might take care of the body, the foundation said on its Facebook page.

After the story went viral, a spokesman for Phet Kasem told Efe this Friday that the old man kept the corpse of his wife of 21 years inside a coffin and that, having declared the death of the wife, had not broken the law.
Charn was living happily with his wife and two children when she died in 2001 due to health problems, following which he decided to keep the body at home as he might not accept his death, as detailed to the foundation.
Their two children grew up, started their families and moved out of the house, Charn added.
“My love for you has not changed”
Volunteers at the foundation organized last Saturday a Buddhist ceremony and cremation of the body at Wat Sakorn Sun Prachasun temple, in the northeast of the capital, and the Thai was able to take the ashes home.

According to the local press, Charn graduated in Pharmacy before working as a health worker in the Army and also had law studies and his wife was an official in the Ministry of Public Health.
Nevertheless, the foundation discovered that the man lived in precarious conditions, without electricity or running water in his homeso they are helping him to fix up the place and they visit him daily.
In response, he has agreed to help volunteer at the foundation.
