One of the athletes who will be on the team of the Greek Muaythai team that will come to Patras for the world championship matches is one of our own, Dimos Asimakopoulos, who has achieved many awards in Greece and abroad.
“Peloponnisos” spoke with Dimos Asimakopoulos, a few days before this year’s big meeting and mentioned his goals in the world Muaythai championship.
– Will the Muaythai world championship be held in Patras this year? How did this come regarding?
“This summer the biggest event in the sport of Muaythai is coming to Greece and Patras, the World Adult Championship. The event is a gate of development for our country in the sport of 8 ends. The world championships will feature top athletes from all over the world vying for places on the podium.
The fact that the championship is coming to Greece is the work of the Panhellenic Muaythai Federation, the President, the athletes of the national team, the parents of the fans, as well as the supporters of the sport. Patra, having a tradition in boxing and combining the sea with a beautiful urban environment, is the right city for a championship of the highest importance”.
–How many people work in Patras and in Greece in general?
“In Patras today, there are a few Muaythai sports clubs operating, members of the POM, one of which I also teach as a coach, the Eumachos of Patron. Our goal is to do even more through the world championship.”
-What does it offer differently than other martial arts sports?
“Muaythai is the ultimate stand-up fighting system, as it practically requires balance, precision and efficiency in every strike. You can use the whole body to apply techniques hands, feet, elbows, knees and this is diversity”.
-What are your goals in the organization?;
“It is one of my dreams to compete at the highest level in my city, having the support of my own people. Among them will be my newborn son by my side. With my experience and daily hard preparation, the goal is the gold medal in the event”!
-What should a young kid have to stand out in Muaythai?
-” Muaythai as a sport does not necessarily have conditions in terms of body structure, etc.
Every young child who starts develops useful skills and virtues such as patience, discipline, respect for fellow human beings and of course becomes physically stronger. Hard work and dedication are some of the elements he must have.”
