My five impressions from HIF–MFF 6–0: HIF’s reserves beat MFF’s juniors

HIF won big once morest MFF in their first match in the Elite Södra League Cup. Anton Nilsson and Amar Muhsin scored two goals each once morest an MFF without A-team players.

1. Great victory in HIF’s first league cup match

What used to be called B-team matches or reserve team matches have for a couple of years been called U21 matches and the geographically divided series U21-allsvenskan south and north and so on.
This year, the tournament is called Ligacupen Elit and on Olympiafältet’s level 5, HIF played its first match in the southern series.
MFF, which has a match in the Allsvenskan tonight, came with a pure youth team, without A-team players.
HIF started with eleven A-team players – the eleven who did not start yesterday’s Superettan match once morest Utsiktens BK.
Thus, it was an “uneven team”, as it was called in the school yard.
HIF won comfortably, with 6–0 and were superior throughout basically the entire match.

But even if HIF had a better team in every position, the job must be done. Apart from during a ten-minute period at the beginning of the second half, it can be said that they did that job in a good way.
MFF had a lot of ball possession, but above all in their own defensive third of the pitch. HIF won a lot of balls high up and dictated the conditions.
During the first half hour, HIF had at least eight finishes and a number of corners.
Adrian Svanbäck in the left inside position served Amar Muhsin who shot. Anton Nilsson made it 1-0 on the return, in the 18th minute.

2. Dennis Olsson acted as center back – and scored

Dennis Olsson played his first football match since the cup match once morest IFK Värnamo at the end of February. He was back from his injury – in a new position.
Olsson played 90 minutes at left centre-back – as part of the promotion in his comeback.
He celebrated it by scoring one of the prettiest goals of the year at the Olympiafield when he pulled in a half-volley following Jon Birkfeldt headed down a corner.
The full hit meant 2–0, which was the result at half time.

3. Birkfeldt woke up the team

Birkfeldt was team captain for HIF and completely dominant. He didn’t let up once morest the younger opposition and was heard a lot on the pitch.
HIF went down a bit right following the break. Then MFF’s Amadeus Sundgren took a 45 meter long run with the ball and came to the end – outside. His solo raid was nice, but deserved a better shot as a final product.
Alexandru Ghita also had a goal chance and forced Nils Arvidsson into a save in the 53rd minute and following Arvidsson saved another shot a few minutes later, Birkfeldt was heard shouting “Damn it, wake up!”.
HIF did – immediately.
The rest of the game was once more a one-goal game – apart from a good free-kick from Alexander Hughes and a potentially dangerous MFF counter-attack following an opening pass by Linus Larsen.
There would be four more HIF goals before we went home from the Olympic field.

4. Other four goals

• Simon Bengtsson won the ball on the left, Arian Kabashi chipped the ball forward low to Amar Muhsin, who made it 3–0.
• The 4–0 goal was unusual in several ways. Penalty area player Amar Muhsin was quite far down the pitch and won a free kick. He then played it neatly through to the deep-running, otherwise more settled midfielder, Sumar Almadjed – who took a nimble deep run into the right-wing position. Almadjed entered the box and passed sideways to Adrian Svanbäck who scored.
• Svanbäck then played Simon Bengtsson to a free position on the left in the penalty area. On the return, Muhsin made it 5–0.
• The 6–0 goal was perhaps the prettiest goal from a collective perspective. Here Muhsin held the ball and set it up for Bengtsson, who played sideways to Nilsson, who only had to put it into the net.

5. More notes

• The best in the MFF was probably the trial Ghanaian centre-back Israel Anum, who took a leadership role in the young back line and held off the HIF attacks in a decent way.
• Many in HIF made good efforts. Birkfeldt has been singled out, as well as all those who were involved in several of the goals. A little in the dark, Adam Hellborg was also resolute in midfield and Daniel Bergman did well as right back.
• On HIF’s bench sat Joseph Atie, a defender born in 2006. He has recently left MFF’s P19 for HIF’s ditto following getting limited playing time in MFF. During 2021 and 2022, he was selected for several meetings with the P06 national team.
• For MFF, this was the third match in the League Cup Elit Södra – and the first loss of points.
• MFF’s next match is played on May 6, away to Mjällby.
• HIF’s next match is played at Olympiafältet once morest BoIS on 13 May.

The table, League Cup Elite South:

1. Mjällby, 2-0-0, 6p.
2. Halmstads BK, 2-0-1, 6p.
3. MFF, 2-0-1, 6p.
4. HIF, 1-0-0, 3p.
5. Östers IF, 1-0-1, 3p.
6. TFF, 0-0-1, 0p.
7. BoIS, 0-0-1, 0p.
8. Kalmar FF, 0-0-3, 0p.
