My dad was first person to connect Nigeria to Internet – Eldee claims

Eldee The Don Credits His Father for Bringing the Internet to Nigeria

Music icon Eldee the Don revealed a remarkable piece of Nigerian history on the Adesope Live show: his father was the pioneer who brought the internet to the country. Eldee believes this achievement is often overlooked, stating, “That man [my Dad] was the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet. This is something people argue about because they don’t know his name. He wasn’t that guy who wanted to put himself out there.”

A Tech Pioneer’s Legacy

“Thankfully, I had a dad who was in technology. My dad was a pioneer in his own space as well,” Eldee shared.
His father’s vision and technical expertise led to the establishment of the very first cyber cafe in Lagos.

This groundbreaking establishment served not only individuals but also major institutions, providing crucial internet connectivity to key players like Mobil, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and various government agencies.

Early Access, Musical Advantage

This early exposure to bleeding-edge technology gave Eldee a unique advantage. “At that time, we had access to technology that wasn’t really available. So having all of that, I had a studio in our house where the music is being produced,” he explained. Growing up surrounded by the nascent world of the internet undoubtedly shaped Eldee’s musical journey, providing him with tools and inspiration rarely accessible to others at the time.

A Hidden Hero

Eldee’s revelation sheds light on a significant yet often unacknowledged chapter in Nigeria’s technological history. While the internet has become an integral part of modern life, it’s easy to forget the individuals who laid the groundwork for its arrival. Eldee’s father, a true visionary, took a bold step, connecting Nigeria to the global network and paving the way for the digital revolution that would transform the country. Though he chose to remain out of the spotlight, his contributions have undeniably left a lasting mark on Nigerian society.
