Mutual bombing between American forces and Iranian-backed groups in eastern Syria

Syria – American forces and Iranian-backed armed groups exchanged bombardments yesterday evening, Friday, in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

According to local sources on Saturday, Iranian-backed armed groups stationed west of the Euphrates River targeted the American base in the Koniko gas field in Deir ez-Zor yesterday evening with a missile attack.

She indicated that strong explosions were heard in the area where the American base is located, while it was not known if the attack resulted in human losses.

In response to this targeting, US forces launched artillery shelling on sites belonging to Iranian-backed groups in the village of Hawija Saqr in Deir ez-Zor.

On the other hand, sources reported that an unknown source drone targeted a car belonging to pro-Iranian groups in the town of Mahkan, west of the Euphrates River.

She added that the attack resulted in the death of two people and the wounding of three others.

US army bases in Syria in the provinces of Homs, Al-Hasakah, and Deir ez-Zor are subjected to attacks with missiles and drones, from time to time.

The territory of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, located east of the Euphrates River, is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces led by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units supported by the United States, while the center of the governorate and other rural areas are under the control of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the factions supported by Iran.
