Most Muslims around the world, on Monday (11/3), began fasting during Ramadan amid concern over the suffering of Palestinians amidst the raging war in the Gaza Strip.
In Saudi Arabia, King Salman called for an end to the heinous crimes occurring in Gaza. “As we witness the arrival of Ramadan this year, our hearts are filled with sadness for the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine who continue to face relentless aggression,” he said.
“We call on the international community to uphold its responsibility to end this heinous crime and ensure the establishment of safe humanitarian and aid corridors.”
Through the official news agency SPA, The Saudi Arabian government announced Monday, March 11, 2024, to be the start of Ramadan this year. Likewise, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also announced the start of Ramadan on Monday through their respective official news agencies.
Egypt’s Islamic advisory body Dar al-Ifta also confirmed Ramadan began on Monday, as did in the Palestinian Territories, including Gaza, and in Algeria and Tunisia. Meanwhile in Morocco and Libya, Ramadan will start on Tuesday. Likewise with Iran.
In Jordan, the kingdom’s Grand Mufti Ahmed Hasnat prayed to God to ease the suffering of the oppressed people in Gaza and eliminate the suffering from Israeli aggression.(AFP/M-3)
