Millions of respondents to a poll prepared by the owner of Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk, called for him to step down from his position as CEO of the social network, increasing pressure on him to resign.
And as the poll closed early yesterday morning, following 12 hours of voting, it became clear that 57.5 percent of the more than 17 million respondents agreed “yes” to a question posed by Musk: “Should I step down from the presidency of Twitter?” Musk later wrote, “As the saying goes, be careful what you want, you might get it.” And 42.5 percent opposed the idea of Musk stepping down.
Musk had previously promised that he would abide by the poll’s findings. Musk’s stepping down, if it actually takes place, is expected to push the company towards more uncertainty. It was not immediately clear whether Musk would appoint a new CEO or not for the platform, which has suffered chaos and confusion due to its rapidly changing policies, then withdrawn or amended, since its $44 billion purchase of Twitter less than two months ago.
