Musk on X’s suspension in Brazil: “De Moraes deserves jail”

**South African businessman Elon Musk, CEO of X, said that Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes “deserves jail for his crimes,” after the Supreme Court of the South American country ratified its precautionary decision to suspend the social network within its territory.**

“De Moraes deserves jail time for his crimes,” Musk posted on his X account.

The ban on X comes after the technology magnate’s repeated disregard for various rulings by that court, which had previously ordered the suspension of dozens of profiles on that platform, in the context of a trial on the massive dissemination of fake news and attacks on democracy and its institutions.

X’s suspension, which came into effect gradually from early Saturday morning and which – according to the ruling – will remain in place until the social network complies with “all” of the court’s decisions, had already caused Musk to refer to De Moraes as a “dictator” in previous days.

The tech magnate also took advantage of the hours following confirmation of X’s suspension on Brazilian soil to continue to appear on his profile and muddy the waters.

Among other posts, he reposted a tutorial on how to download an app so that users can use a VPN that does not geolocate them in Brazil so they can use X; and he showed his support for another tweet that argued that US President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, remain “silent” in the face of what happened because “they oppose freedom of expression.”

“I hope Lula enjoys commercial flights”
After it was also announced on Monday that the United States confiscated the official plane of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in an operation – based on violations of sanctions against Venezuela – that took place in the Dominican Republic, Musk linked both events on his social network to threaten the Brazilian Executive of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“Unless the Brazilian government returns the illegally seized property of X and SpaceX, we will seek reciprocal seizure of government assets as well. I hope Lula enjoys commercial flights,” Musk said on X.

In addition to the precautionary measure issued against X, another front of legal conflict has been added with Starlink (SpaceX), also owned by Musk and which has refused to comply with the suspension of the social network in Brazil.

The accounts of Starlink, which offers satellite internet services and has some 215,000 active lines in Brazil, have been blocked by De Moraes in order to ensure payment of fines imposed on X, which has some 20 million users in the country.
