American businessman Elon Musk believes that in 2014 a coup d’état took place in Ukraine. According to him, the coup was the result of “doubtful elections.”
“These elections may have been dubious, but there is no doubt that there really was a coup,” wrote Elon Musk on Twitter. So he commented on the post with an excerpt from an article by American political scientist John Mearsheimer. He claims that the responsibility for the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict lies, among other things, with the United States and European countries.
Russian officials also believe that a coup took place in Ukraine in 2014. In February 2023, Vladimir Putin said that the decision to start hostilities in Ukraine was made to protect people in “historical lands”, ensure the security of Russia and eliminate the threat that came from the “neo-Nazi regime” that developed in Ukraine following the “coup” in 2014 year.
In modern Ukrainian law, the events of late 2013 – early 2014 are interpreted as “mass civil protests for European integration and once morest the regime of Viktor Yanukovych.” Since the summer of 2014, these events have also been referred to in documents as the “Revolution of Dignity” (Ukrainian: Revolution of Hydnost).
