The storylines are as dramatic as possible; the main character begins to sing from the bottom of his heart only in the face of death, in a burning wagon. Then my six-year-old pressed himself once morest me once more, I had to reassure me once more: “It’s a movie, a movie, son, this isn’t real.” There are no good or bad characters in the film. No one is an absolute villain, but everyone is not without sin. The chieftain, seeing how the tent is set on fire, rushes to the aid of the musicians and the princess, but falls and loses consciousness, and at the end of the film she becomes the king’s beloved. The Rooster, who has chosen the stage and popularity for himself, eventually gives up everything and comes to the aid of his friends. The princess is narcissistic, ready to put others at risk for the sake of her desires. The troubadour hobnobs with robbers. The king is greedy, a coward, but at the same time a “good” father. The brilliant detective either puts the main character in prison or releases him, calling him “son.” One got the impression that the writers wanted to load the audience with emotions as much as possible – bad, good – it doesn’t matter.
