Musical moments of happiness for Linz’s Mariendom

The fabulous quality that the Linz State Theater’s musical division delivers week following week has long since spread beyond Austria’s borders. The troupe led by boss Matthias Davids and musical director Tom Bitterlich is currently celebrating triumphs with “School of Rock”, “Tootsie” and “The Queens”. The eleven-member ensemble swept more than 1,200 visitors from their seats with hits from the musical spectrum on Shrove Tuesday in the Oberbank Donau Forum.

The potpourri from “Phantom of the Opera” to the “ABBA” medley and from “Mein Herr Marquis” from “Fledermaus” to the Rocky horror evergreen “Sweet Transvestite” was not just a sophisticated alternative to the “Villacher TV carnival”. “, but it was also regarding a good cause. “Off-duty state governor and on-duty fundraiser Josef Pühringer” (quote from moderator Christine Haiden) had persuaded the landlord and Oberbank general director Franz Gasselsberger to take part in this event as follows: “You pay the expenses, I get the income.” By “I” Pühringer meant them He tirelessly supported the renovation of Linz’s Mariendom, which will have cost around 14 million euros by 2030. State Governor Thomas Stelzer was represented by Christine Haberlander (both ÖVP), State Theater Managing Director Thomas Königstorfer enthusiastically clapped with her. Music is a promise of happiness, Bishop Manfred Scheuer quoted the philosopher Theodor W. Adorno – this promise was fulfilled over a good 90 minutes.
