muscle in the line

With its big headlights biting into a massive grille at the end of a short, chunky bonnet, the Skoda Enyaq iV has personality. Seen in profile, especially with large rims (up to 21″), the small roof spoiler which slightly extends the roof brings a little dynamism to the silhouette. large station wagon raised and therefore, turns out to be rather conventional.Hyundai Ioniq 5 with the look of a compact sedan from the 70s with overinflated volume, Kia EV6 playing with futuristic and astonishing lines, Ford Mustang Mach-E inspired by the famous American muscle car , the comparison would almost make Skoda’s family SUV look like an all-purpose model. This is where the Skoda Enyaq Coupé iV comes in. Cut off by the roofline but with still as many openings, it changes its proportions from everything for a more dynamic alternative, which attracts more attention and deceives rivals in its segment.

Thinner at the top, stronger at the bottom

The line is fine at the top, refined like the design of the tailgate, which no longer includes the license plate. The all-glass roof, fitted to all Enyaq Coupé, connects the windscreen to the rear window, providing additional distinction. Below the body line, the bodywork is almost identical to that of the classic Enyaq. However, the contrast with the more slender pavilion increases the impression of width and the thickness of the lines, increasing the character of its design. The SUV coupé thus appears more muscular.

To accompany this major modification, the side sills and the lips of the front and rear bumpers change from black to the color of your bodywork, to give a sportier lowered ground clearance effect. They actually take on the attributes of the Sportline finish of the Enyaq, also including the modified front bumper, with a central return that goes higher towards the grille and contrasting side hooks in black. In addition, the frame of the side glazing receives as standard a chrome strip along its entire contour.

Rounding off the dimensions, the Enyaq Coupé is still 4.65 m long, 1.88 m wide and 1.62 m high. In detail, however, it gains 4 mm in length and 6 mm in height. The pavilion, slightly higher, thinner also, contributes to catch up with the fall of the roof from an interior habitability point of view, wanted as generous as in the Enyaq.

A Skoda takes care to offer space and practicality in all conditions. Delicate in the case of a cut profile. Losing bodywork on the outside without reducing the volume on the inside too much is a complex operation. The technique often consists of starting the fall of the headlining from the head restraints as far as possible and sometimes of hollowing it out at the level of the foam trim above the heads of the occupants. The Czech passed the test with honors and transformed the test with its fixed panoramic glass roof, longer on the rear corners. Standard equipment that brings a lot of light and effectively increases the feeling of space, not available on the classic Enyaq, offering an optional narrower and much shorter sunroof.

From 585 liters to 570 liters of trunk

The glass mechanically increases the headroom in the front, while the legroom for the rear passengers as well as their installation do not show any particular difference. Differences, there are necessarily more in the trunk, since the square cutout to the pavilion is no longer exploitable in height. On the other hand, under the rear parcel shelf the capacity difference is minimal. 15 liters less, with still 570 liters, more than the majority of its competitors, without reaching the immensity of the hold of the Tesla Model Y (854 liters at the rear + a trunk of 117 liters at the front).

13-inch multimedia screen for everyone

Since the disappearance from the catalog of the “50” version with the useful 52 kWh battery and a slightly less extensive equipment, all the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupé have a generous level of equipment where the essential practical and amenity is included. All therefore now benefit from the central 13-inch screen, a large format integrated like a tablet placed on the dashboard, which still contrasts as much with the small 5.3-inch display of the digital instrumentation, despite everything readable.

Five ambiences are offered with all finishes, with the exception of the Sportline and RS models with more sporty treatments. The upholstery therefore varies between imitation leather/fabric, wool, Alcantara, black leather or leather tanned with olive leaf in a brown hue. This last atmosphere highlights a passenger compartment that is generally very well finished, very well assembled, with a presentation that has nothing to envy to that of its technical twins from Volkswagen or Audi, not to say that it exceeds them. . The perceived quality still suffers from the grainy-looking plastics at the bottom of the cabin, which have the misfortune to go up to the height of the door closing handles and the side armrests, often in contact with the hands.

Even “Coupé”, the technique is the same

Two batteries are available: 58 kWh and 77 kWh net capacities. They correspond respectively to the “60” and “80” versions. The first develops 180 hp and the second, 204 hp, with an equal torque of 310 Nm in both cases. The engine is placed at the rear. The difference in weight due to the different batteries offers the same performance to both versions, with a 0 to 100 km/h performed in 8.8 seconds. Then comes the “80X” model which adds a second engine to the front axle. The power increases to 265 hp in total for a torque of 425 Nm and the 0 to 100 km / h drops to 7 seconds.

Up to 520 km range

The announced autonomy loses 25 km, with 520 km when the “60” version displays 416 km according to the WLTP cycle. In reality, these figures will not be achieved on long journeys. Our consumption measurements of the Enyaq iV 80, certainly a little less aerodynamic than the Enyaq Coupé, would only allow us to approach 400 km at an average of 110 km/h.

Charging takes place up to 11 kW in alternating current and 135 kW in direct current from the “80” version, 120 kW below. The only cable delivered with the vehicle is the one for Wallbox and public terminals (Mode 3, Type 2). The heat pump to reduce consumption in cold weather is an option at €1,050. New, communication with compatible terminals allows you to connect to fast charging stations without having to take out a card or your phone in order to be recognized.

Stable but flexible behavior

Typed comfort by the flexibility of its suspensions, the Enyaq Coupé remains well held in a curve but still shakes on degraded surfaces, while the large rims can make certain connections and speed bumps a little brittle. With the controlled suspension with finely configurable hardness, the general filtration however makes you forget the large diameter wheels. Pleasant at the controls but not particularly exciting to drive, the Enyaq Coupé, like the Enyaq, is aimed at families and is intended for a smooth ride. A bit like its brake pedal, very correct for an electric but sometimes perfectible consistency.

We find the paddles on the steering wheel to manage the four levels of energy recovery, the minimum position corresponding to the “freewheel” mode and the automatic mode continuously manages the force of deceleration, in particular according to the traffic.

The driving aids add a lane-keeping function in urban environments, better distinguishing work zones and erased markings, but corrections when approaching a line, apart from the use of the adaptive cruise control, can be too intrusive.

A new RS version

Skoda takes advantage of this new bodywork to add an “RS” version to the range, which will also complete that of the classic Enyaq iV therefollowing. A first on an electric model from the manufacturer. Logos on the front wings, specific rims, additional black lacquered inserts, it incorporates as standard the illuminated “Crystal Face” grille and improved driving aids. The color “Vert Mamba” is added to the choice of colors, in addition to the “Orange Phoenix” available on all Enyaq Coupé in place of the “Arctic Grey”. The sports steering wheel and the bucket seats are its own, while the chassis is lowered by 15 mm at the front and 10 mm at the rear.

Up to 299 horsepower and four-wheel drive

On the engine side, it takes up the configuration of the “80X” version and increases the power to 299 hp for a torque of 460 Nm. The top speed is raised to 180 km/h instead of 160 km/h. The 0 to 100 km/h wins half a second, at 6.5 sec.

Overall, if the seats maintain a little better and the performance is up slightly, this does not transfigure the Enyaq, which is still comfort oriented. The presence of a front engine increases the weight around 2.2 tonnes. The four-wheel-drive versions, RS or not, are therefore rather clumsy at the front and more prone to understeer. The sportiness of this label is therefore only visual.

From €48,010

And once more, a basic Enyaq Coupé, with optional big rims and a bright color looks just as dynamic. Which is in a sense good news, since the cheapest version has everything that gives this “Coupé” version its interest. An eye-catching look, a beautiful glazed roof, all in a preserved space, all the same invoiced at €4,170, to be added to the prices of the equivalent Enyaq iV, bringing the entry ticket to €48,010 (€62,210 for the RS finish), beyond the limit to benefit from the maximum bonus of €6,000. Even SUV, a coupe always brings a share of exclusivity.
