Muscle cramps and weakness… How do we avoid the symptoms of sitting in front of screens?

Marley Daccache reports:

Most likely you are carrying your smartphone in the meantime, browsing your accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, this technology will not make us feel tired or exhausted immediately but it makes us less attentive to our proper posture and often we do not pay attention to its negatives except when we stand in front of the mirror and see the position of the shoulders and back different from what it was .

In this regard, Dr. Roni Abu Ghosn, a specialist in orthopedic surgery, warned of a new health “disaster” that threatens the developing generations with the change in lifestyle and the resort to sitting for a longer time in front of screens.

Abu Ghosn explained on the “IMLebanon” website the symptoms that might be caused by sitting for a long time in front of screens in the future, and these symptoms include spasms in the body, neck and back calcification, muscle weakness, and tendonitis, pointing out that there are more difficult and advanced symptoms.

Abu Ghosn added, “The symptoms are not limited to bones only, but also include physical obesity, headaches, and deteriorating mental health.”

Regarding scoliosis, Abu Ghosn indicated that this disease does not appear in everyone during adolescence, but rather at different ages. Therefore, parents and schools must monitor children to diagnose the condition early and visit the doctor to take the necessary measures.

Abu Ghosn stressed that scoliosis cannot be cured, but back pain can be avoided through specialized exercise or by wearing a “corset” so as not to increase the degrees of inclination of the spine.

Physiotherapist Dr. Nizar Akiki explained, in turn, through the “IMLebanon” website, the reasons for the curvature of the back and the lateral tilt of the spine, saying that for the majority the reason is genetic, since this disorder sometimes runs in families, while for others it is the result of bad posture, especially in recent times following resorting to work. And distance learning.

Akiki pointed out that scoliosis is diagnosed during adolescence, stressing that the parents and the school play an essential role in monitoring the children’s condition during lessons or sports activities, and following up with specialized doctors to examine this condition.

For her part, sports trainer Noel Hassoun emphasized the importance of exercising to avoid these problems, noting on our website that sport plays a major role in strengthening muscles and improving body posture.

Hassoun pointed out on our website that improving the body’s position contributes to the introduction of a greater amount of oxygen into the body.

Hassoun gave some advice to those who suffer from back pain and neck curvature, saying: “Allocating time for exercise is essential to avoid health problems related to body posture and the external appearance of the body, even twice a week.”

Hassoun advised adopting smart methods while working to reduce sitting for long periods, including: parking the car farther from the work desk and going on foot, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Hassoun explained that during the daily exercises, the back muscles must be exercised and strengthened, because they are essential for the integrity of the body.

Sport has become essential nowadays to maintain a healthy posture with the long hours we spend in front of the computer or smart phones.

The individual should not neglect himself or his child if he notices the signs of scoliosis, so he must go to the doctor and undergo appropriate treatment before his condition worsens. Mild curves may appear without feeling any pain in the early stages of the disease.
