Murray sends a message to Alcaraz, the next tennis star in the game
Former British star Andy Murray praised Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz, as he touched on the potential he possesses to stay at the top of the men’s tennis world rankings for as long as he wants.
Murray said, following losing to Dusan Lajovic in the opening match of the American Miami Championship, in statements from the field following the end of the confrontation: “Alcaraz’s way of playing is excellent, he plays wonderfully on all surfaces.”
He added, “He’s not the biggest player, but he can shoot powerful serves, he’s incredibly mobile, he’s a great player, he has a lot of versatility.”
And Murray, the former world number one, continued: “I know from my experience that it is a little easier to play this way when you are 18 or 19 years old and there are no injuries. I hope he maintains this style of play, because it is exciting to watch.”
He concluded: “I know a lot of people expect everyone to win more than 20 major championships as if it is normal, I would not expect that for anyone, I imagine that he will be at the top of the game as long as he wants to play.”
