At the moment the causes of its decline are unknown. The famous Spanish hairdresser was an international fashion institution, and also stood out in other artistic fields such as painting or photography.
Luis Llongueras was considered an iconic figure in the world of hairdressing and fashion. He was born on May 24, 1936 in Esparraguera, Spain. From a very young age, he showed interest and talent in the field of hairdressing and began his professional career at his father’s beauty salon.
The artist stood out for his innovative and avant-garde approach to hairdressing, introducing new techniques and styles that revolutionized the industry. His creativity and ability to transform hair earned him recognition and fame both nationally and internationally.
Throughout her career, Llongueras worked with numerous celebrities, models and influential personalities, leaving her distinctive stamp on the world of fashion and glamour. She became a kind of star that all kinds of clients came to: the Aga Khan, Carmen Sevilla, Lola Flores, Rocío Jurado, Bianca Jagger passed through her hands. Her creations appeared in renowned magazines and participated in prestigious events and fashion shows.
One of Llongueras’ outstanding achievements was the creation of Spain’s first unisex salon in 1972, at a time when that was highly unusual in the conservative moral context of late-Franco Spain.
With this innovative proposal, he promoted franchises of beauty academies and salons (reaching 50 franchises in Spain and 120 salons around the world), from which his famous “Llongueras Method” was taught and applied. This method transformed the bold haircut into a statement and became popular thanks to her books and videos.
The “Llongueras Method” included unique techniques that received singular names, such as the programmed cut, the patch and the bi-color. These revolutionary techniques made it possible to create unique hairstyles and became hair fashion trends. Through his publications and audiovisual materials, the stylist disseminated his knowledge and techniques, allowing his influence to extend beyond his own salons.
Lluis Llongueras his friendship with Salvador Dalí
Over the years, Llongueras and Dalí collaborated on numerous projects and events, leaving a significant mark on both the world of art and fashion. Their joint work remains a reference in the history of styling and surreal aesthetics, and their legacy lives on in the influence they have had on generations.
Now, with Gala, Dalí’s wife, despite their friendship with the artist, they never came to understand each other. “Gala has not changed since the 40s of the last century. She wore horrible makeup. He wore a hair with a ‘top Spain’ with a Chanel bow that Coco Chanel herself had given him and he hardly changed it to the point of being threadbare and even dirty. The first time she walked through the door of my living room, I stared at her, because she was the woman with the most outdated, fatal and outdated image I had ever seen. She captured the impression I had of her. She never forgave me. From that moment on, I was nobody to her. When I went to see Dalí, she would go to another room so as not to greet me, ”the stylist told S Moda in 2019.

This conflict was resolved two years later, when his family agreed to sign an agreement and compensate him financially. Although they never reconciled, from then on, the stylist took a conciliatory stance on the matter. In an interview, Llongueras expressed: “It was a wrong decision made by my children, and time has shown it. I’m sorry they had problems, because if you don’t know how to manage a company, you shouldn’t take the reins. But hey, I had other businesses that have done very well, and my life is moving on smoothly.
