Murillo Karam planned the ‘historical truth’ in a high-level conclave; García Harfuch among those present

The former Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Jesús Murillo Karam, forged the so-called “historical truth” in a conclave of high-ranking officers of the Federal Police and the PGR itselfamong which the current Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City stands outOmar García Harfuchrevealed the prosecutor in charge of the Lidia Bustamante case.

When presenting the evidence to charge Murillo Karam with the crime of torture, the FGR prosecutor explained that Bernardo Cano Muñozcano, former private secretary of Tomás Zeron de Lucio and who would have recorded the videos in which the detainees in the Ayotzinapa case were tortured, accepted a criterion of opportunity and revealed the details of the meeting that Murillo Karam had with “senior officers” of the Federal Police and the Prosecutor’s Office itself.

The meeting would have occurred in Iguala, Guerrero, on October 7, 2014, under the direction of the head of the PGR, Jesús Murillo Karam, and with the participation of the former anti-kidnapping coordinator of the PGR, Gualberto Ramírez Gutierrez, currently a fugitive; of the former delegate of the Federal Police in Guerrero, Omar García Harfuch; the former director of the Criminal Investigation Agency, Tomás Zerón de Lucio; the former director of the Federal Ministerial Police, Carlos Gómez Arrieta; and the former PGR delegate in the state of Guerrero, José Luis Martinez Pérez.

According to Cano Muñozcano’s statements, he admitted having recorded the videos of the alleged confessions to four alleged members of Guerreros Unidos who were detained by the PGR and the Navy on October 27, 2014, including the victim identified by the initials SRJ, alias “El Cherejé.”

In his ministerial statement, Zerón de Lucio’s former collaborator added that he was present on the day of the conclave in which the assembly of the so-called “historical truth” was concocted among the high command.

However, he clarified that he might not enter, since they were asked to leave when the then governor of Guerrero, Ángel Aguirre Rivero, arrived.

During the hearing, the Control judge, Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia, criticized the FGR prosecutors for their lack of preparation, since they have failed to expose the legal part of the accusation such as the modality and the degree of participation of the crimes that they are attributed to Murillo Karam.

He even threatened to give his hierarchical superiors a view of his lack of preparation to lead the hearing.

In addition, during the hearing it was also clarified that there are four alleged victims of torture who point to the former head of the PGR.

At the start of the initial hearing of criminal case 307/2022, the Control judge, Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia, only authorized the participation of two prosecutors and a representative of the victims of torture, despite the fact that both parties requested to incorporate the least one more person to the stands.

On the part of the indirect victims, it will attend the head of the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center, Santiago Aguirre, as well as the parents of one of the missing youths.

The parents of the Ayotzinapa normalistas appear in the protected witness room, but since they did not have a legal adviser with them, the control judge ordered the lawyer Santiago Aguirre to look for a lawyer with a professional license to accompany them, instead of the psychologist who was with them.

Because the lawyers Javier López García and Antonio López Ramírez, defenders of Murillo Karam, stated that they did not know the details of the investigation file, At almost three in the followingnoon, a lunch break was called.
