A 35-year-old man will have to answer before the regional criminal court on Tuesday for the fatal shot in the course of a failed financial transaction in a Viennese print shop in Simmering. The Iranian is said to have embezzled 7,000 euros from a fellow countryman during a transfer. When the 38-year-old demanded the money back, the accused is said to have shot him on May 7th. The Iranian did not survive being shot in the chest.
The 35-year-old, who ran a printing company and an company, was overwhelmed by debts from autumn 2022 onwards. In May he met the 38-year-old and his wife in order to process financial transactions for them using the so-called hawala system. The defendant accepted an amount of 33,000 euros from the couple, which was intended for the victim’s brother in Iran. To do this, the 35-year-old’s family in Iran would have had to pass this amount on to his brother. The deal, a kind of transfer of debt on the basis of trust, did not come regarding, but the 35-year-old still collected the large amount and simply gave 7,000 euros of it to one of his creditors. There was an argument during which the defendant fired the fatal shot. If convicted as charged, the man might face ten to 20 years or life in prison. After the trial started on Tuesday, the hearing will continue on December 12th.
