‘Murder She Rotten’ Dame Angela Lansbury Dies at 96

The star of ‘The Murder She Rotten’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ died ‘in her sleep’ on Tuesday (October 11).

Her family said in a statement: ‘The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are saddened to announce that their mother passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles at 1.30am today, 11 October 2022. Just five days before his 97th birthday.’

‘In addition to his three children, Anthony, Deirdre and David, he is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Catherine and Ian, as well as five great-grandchildren and his brother, producer Edgar Linus Bray. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Peter Shaw.’

A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.

The London-born actress won five Tony Awards throughout her career. Most recently, she was honored for her performance as Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s Bullet Spirit in 2009.

She previously won the Best Actress in a Musical Tony in 1979 for her role as Nellie Levitt in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, as well as for Mame (1966), Dear World (1969) and Gypsy (1975).

On screen, Lansbury famously lent her voice to the heartbreaking role of Mrs. Pott in the 1991 musical Beauty and the Beast.

As Mrs Pott, the actress sang one of the most memorable songs in the film, ‘Tale As Old as Time’.

In 2016, she performed the song at Lincoln Center in New York City for the 25th anniversary of Beauty and the Beast.

Miss Lance Brie will also be remembered by many for her role as mystery writer Jessica Fletcher on the hit CBS series Murder She Rotten.

The series ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996 and became one of the network’s largest and most successful drama series of the 80s.

Linus Bray directs as executive producer of ‘Murder She Root’ through Corey Moore Productions. She founded the Corey Moore Production Company with her late husband, Shaw, who died in 2003.

In addition to his presence on television, Lance Brie also made an impact on the big screen.

The actor received three Oscar nominations in his lifetime. The first film was for her supporting role in the 1944 classic Gaslight, co-starring Ingrid Bergman.

She received a second Academy Award for her role in 1945’s The Picture of Dorian Gray and a third for her role as Mrs. Eleanor Iselin in 1962’s All Fall Down.

During his career, Lance Bray also received an Olivier Award, an honorary Oscar and a Lifetime Achievement Award from BAFTA.

In a 2014 ceremony at Windsor Castle, the late Queen Elizabeth II awarded Lance Bray the DBE (Dame Commander of the British Empire).

Speaking about the moment, the actor said: ‘It’s a very proud day for me to be recognized by the country of my birth, and to meet the Queen under these circumstances is a rare and beautiful opportunity.’

In a 2019 interview, Lance Bray said he was not ready to retire.

‘Yes, I do on certain days,’ she told US magazine Parade [اس کے بارے میں سوچتی ہوں]. I think, ‘Oh, no. I can’t bring myself to do it today. But I keep doing it.’

‘There’s going to come a time where I’ll think, I’m wrapping up now. I’m putting this person in the closet and I’m going to spend the rest of my years with my family.’

Lansbury was born on October 16, 1925 in London.

He is survived by his children Anthony, Deirdre and stepson David, as well as three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his brother Edgar.

Seinfeld star Jason Alexander is among the many celebrities paying tribute to Lance Brie.
