“The murders may have been the result of efforts to assert some type of dominance,” believes Pete Yachmetz, a former FBI agent and security expert.

In December, Bryan Kohberger was arrested for the November 13 murder of four University of Idaho students. The victims are Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.

“I believe that continuing to stab a victim indicates uncontrollable rage and extreme anger. (…) I think he may have developed a sort of incel complex”, he continues.

Short for “involuntarily celibate,” the term incel is generally used to refer to men who struggle to pursue romantic or sexual relationships. These people also end up on misogynistic online forums.

Although the term isn’t a real psychological definition, Psychology Today noted last year that men who define themselves as such often have poor mental health and feel inferior and alone.

In an interview with CourtTV, Dr. Carole Lieberman, a forensic psychiatrist, also believed that the suspect in the murder of the four students fitted the profile of an incel.

“From the very beginning, I say that he is an incel”, explains the one who was convinced by the choice of the victims, who are mainly women.

“Incels like to be recognized when they kill people, or when they intend to. Even if he wanted to commit the perfect crime and not be caught, he wanted, at the same time, to be proud of what he did,” she adds. Recall that Kohberger returned to the scene of the crime a few hours following the quadruple murder.
