Murder of Steven B. in Antwerp: 16-year-old third suspect arrested

As a reminder, Steven B., alias “S9”, was a singer who rapped Drill, a style of rap that is currently very popular. He had intervened during a knife attack on October 29 at Antwerp station. At the time, he had no problems and he told the police that he had not used such a weapon. According to him, he was present on the scene as a “mediator” to appease the various protagonists, all from Aalst. For three weeks he had been locked up in the Everberg juvenile institution for three weeks.

Since this incident, Saffi N. (who was arrested along with another 16-year-old boy) and his gang had been tracking Steven B. Last Wednesday, the young Belgian was fatally attacked following a stabbing.

The three attackers had waited for Steven to leave the family home on that disastrous day. Once outside, the boys rushed towards him and Steven tried to run away. His father witnessed the scene and then ran to try to help his son. However, he was forced to stop running because of his walking difficulties. On the Avenue de l’Armistice, the attackers managed to catch up with Steven and then stabbed him several times. The three teenagers then fled. Quickly, residents administered first aid but it was already too late. Two hours following this shocking incident, Steven died of his injuries.

On Friday, a ceremony will be organized in his honor. The young man will then be buried in Antwerp.
