When the Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston (54) and Adam Sandler (56), the “power couple” of the US comedy, tried their hand at detective business for the first time in 2019, the streaming service Netflix celebrated.
In three days, “Murder Mystery 1” is said to have been viewed by almost 31 million profiles. Anyone familiar with the film business knew that this was tantamount to an unofficial commitment to a sequel. “Murder Mystery 2” has been on offer since yesterday.
Ex-cop Nick (Sandler) and his wife Audrey Spitz (Aniston) happily stumble into their first high-profile case as a hopeful but clumsy private investigator. The couple is invited to the wedding of their billionaire friend, a Maharajah, who is promptly kidnapped. For the couple the chance to prove themselves.
Just stupid that they are quickly considered suspects. The prelude to a chase for truth and a culprit that becomes a wild ride across Europe with a flair as if Bond, his comedic counterpart Johnny English and Agatha Christie were pulling the strings themselves. Inspiration was probably also found in Guy Ritchie’s crude, laconic sense of humor when it came to crime stories. Of course, the joke is also brute, following all, Sandler is involved. However, he has a lifelong friendship with Aniston, which subtly enhances Nick and Audrey’s chemistry. Fast and fun!
Murder Mystery 2: USA, 2023, 90 Min.
