Murder in the national park in Iowa: family shot dead while camping – only boy (9) survives | news

How can one be capable of such a deed?

In a national park in Iowa (USA) almost an entire family was shot dead by a 23-year-old on Friday morning. The perpetrator Anthony Sherwin broke into the Schmidt family’s tent at around six in the morning, shot the parents Tyler and Sarah (both 42), the six-year-old daughter Lula and finally himself. Only the 9-year-old son Arlo survived the act unharmed.

Police found Sherwin’s body not far from the crime scene in Maquoketa Caves State Park. Why he almost wiped out the entire family is unclear. The killer lived with his parents in Nebraska, several hundred miles from where his victims lived, and was not related to the Schmidt family, according to police.

It is also not clear how little Arlo survived the attack. According to an eyewitness, he stood by the tent wearing only pajamas and a pair of blue tennis shoes while police investigated the scene. “He just stood there. He wasn’t crying, but he didn’t seem upset either.” Arlo’s mother’s cousin has a “ GoFundMe‘ page set up for the boy to raise funds for his education. So far, more than $100,000 has been donated there.
