FURSTENFELD. The body of a woman with stab wounds was discovered in an apartment in Altenmarkt near Fürstenfeld (Styria) on Sunday followingnoon. According to the police, the woman may have been killed by her partner (55). The 34-year-old Austrian – she lived with the 55-year-old in a single-family home – is said to have been stabbed several times in the chest.
The man then shot himself with a registered firearm. His body was discovered at a property not far from the home.
If the course of events is confirmed, it would be another murder of a woman by an (ex-)partner, family members or persons close to him.
According to statistics from the Association of Autonomous Austrian Women’s Shelters, there have already been 16 femicides and 32 attempted murders of women in Austria this year (not counting the bloody crime in Fürstenfeld).
