Municipality of Lubango leads cases of HIV/AIDS in Huíla – news

The province of Huíla registered, by the end of the third quarter of this year, 903 positive cases of HIV/AIDS, 21 less than in the same period of 2022, in a total of 40 thousand 60 tests carried out in different health units, local authorities announced .

The municipality of Lubango represents 53 percent of the tests carried out, with 17 thousand 901 and registered 600 positive cases, with 25 thousand 748 tests carried out on pregnant women, with 102 positive cases, said the focal point of the program to combat HIV in Huíla, Joaquim Manuel Cambanda.

Speaking to ANGOP, as part of the Day to Combat the Disease, he stated that in nine months, seven million, 308 condoms were distributed free of charge by health units, through an institutional strategic plan.

Still on disease prevention policies, Joaquim Cambanda announced that the Department of Public Health and Endemic Disease Control of Huíla will begin next week (the 30th) to install viral load services for early childhood diagnosis in eight of the 14 municipalities.

These are the municipalities of Caconda, Caluquembe, Cacula, Quilengues, Humpata, Chibia, Gambos and Lubango, in an action that aims to identify the population infected by the disease and facilitate prevention.

The implementation of the Public Health and Endemic Disease Control project, according to the source, will allow work on preventive measures to overcome new infections.

He stated that the aim is also to encourage people living with HIV-AIDS to seek health services, with the aim of reducing their viral load with therapy, in addition to reinforcing the culture of awareness of the correct use of condoms.
