“At 48 years old, I feel immense happiness knowing that my club Zaragoza, where I started as a child when I was 9 years old, will now have its synthetic field. I played my entire life on earth since I was 7 and to see this is a great achievement for my club and also for the Unión Católica, de la Población 20 de Agosto, where I also played,” reflects excitedly, Víctor Muñoz, known as “Garry ”, formerly distinguished “10”, who wore the jacket of both teams and values the transition from the dirt court to the synthetic surface.

“The children will have the opportunity to play on a decent field. I recently had the chance to see my son Martín Muñoz become a champion on the dirt court wearing the Zaragoza jersey and now he is a Ñublense cadet. I will always be supporting my club now with this beautiful project, for which I thank Mayor Camilo Benavente and his entire team. “This is a dream we have been waiting for for years,” says “Garry.”

Like him, the historic members of the “Zaragoza de la Purén” are happy because in the coming weeks, the new face of the emblematic redoubt located on Central Street and 3 Oriente will be inaugurated, also benefiting the neighboring cross square, the “20 of August”, and also, to all inhabitants of the sector who dreamed of a space with better conditions for playing football.

Key support
“The support of the Municipality of Chillán has been fundamental for the construction of this synthetic field because these are municipal resources. It is a huge help to have a space where children can develop the activity they like. This gives dignity to sport because we will have better conditions for playing football. Only words of gratitude to the municipality because we were postponed for many years and we were the most central court in the city,” reveals Carlos Cabrera, president of Deportivo Zaragoza.

The historic stronghold, where the club founded on March 23, 1963, is located, was anchored on land owned by Serviu with usufruct in favor of the local municipality, which invested more than $600 million, through the execution of a tender carried out by three companies. . The works included a synthetic grass mat, drinking water, rainwater drainage, new perimeter closure, arches, flags, substitute benches and maintenance of the venue.
During these days, the installation and matching of the synthetic layer and the perimeter closure will be completed, to continue with the other work included in the work.

The mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, highlighted the work of the government, the clubs and also the role of the municipality: “It is a field that is within the city and that will give dignity to two clubs. We are advancing in sports infrastructure and in which we all collaborate, the councilors and the director of Serviu, which allows us to develop this sector of the Purén population that is emblematic for the city.”

Jaime González, president of the Unión Católica Sports Club, confessed that “for us it is a happiness to see that the municipality has invested in this new plastered infrastructure. Many children were raised here, that’s why we have immense joy. Now in winter we will not play in the mud, but on synthetic grass. We thank Deportivo Zaragoza for promoting this long-awaited joint dream, which is to practically have a stadium that is worthy of playing sports.”

Clara San Juan, president of the Neighborhood Council No. 10 of the Purén Population, concluded that “it is a great advance following 68 years with a dirt field when the population was not as large as now. It will be beautiful and it is a preview for the clubs and children who will play sports.”

Víctor “Garry” Muñoz, in closing, launches a premise: “More than a dream, this is dignity for children.”
