Municipality: 16 people evacuated from the apartment building during the fire were transferred to hotels

“16 people, from those who were evacuated during the fire, have been transferred to hotels. The rest decided to stay with relatives and the like,” G. Grubinskas told BNS.

The representative of the capital municipality did not specify how many people were evacuated from the burning apartment building. According to him, the opportunity to stay in hotels was offered to all residents.

According to G. Grubinskis, more people can be transferred to the hotels: “Perhaps they will change their minds, maybe there are those who were not evacuated during the fire or were not at the scene.”

It was previously announced that the residents of all 30 apartments were evacuated from the apartment building to the nearby kindergarten, but the firefighters reported that they found the body of a dead person among the collapsed structures.

According to G. Grubinska, after receiving the experts’ conclusions regarding the condition of the building, it is intended to form an accident investigation commission this week, which will determine the causes of the fire and provide recommendations for further actions related to the building.

Donatas Gurevičius, representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Service at the scene, told BNS that on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Emergency Situations Operations Center of the Vilnius Municipality gathered at the meeting.

As reported by the General Assistance Center, on Tuesday at 11:16 a.m. The General Assistance Center received a report that an explosion occurred in Vilnius, at 101 Viršuliškių Street, and several apartments are on fire.

According to firefighters, around 3:33 p.m. the fire was contained.
