After 34 wins, the EHC is second in the main round behind the defending champion Eisbären Berlin. Manager Christian Winkler (50) sounds optimistic: “It is important that you can always improve from behind.”
The knockout round is also something special for captain Patrick Hager (33). The game is played in “Best of Five” mode. If you have three wins, you advance. Hager: “In the playoffs, the mode forgives you a defeat, in most cases not a second one, because then you are under pressure.”
The EHC wants to avoid that as much as possible on the way to the title. It is still unclear who will be the first opponent in the quarter-finals on Sunday (7 p.m.): Nuremberg or Düsseldorf are in the running.
